Arbitel 40 mg Tablet contains telmisartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that relaxes blood vessels to lower blood pressure and improve blood flow. It is used to treat high blood pressure and can reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke or death in people who are at high cardiovascular risk. Telmisartan may also be prescribed to protect the kidneys in people with type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure.
Who is it for
This medicine is for adults with hypertension or those at risk of cardiovascular events who require an angiotensin II receptor blocker. It is not usually prescribed for children. People with severe kidney or liver impairment, biliary obstructive disorders, or who are allergic to telmisartan should avoid it. Women who are pregnant must not take telmisartan because it can harm the unborn baby, and breastfeeding women should consult a healthcare professional. Caution is advised if you are dehydrated, have heart valve or electrolyte disorders, or are taking diuretics or other antihypertensive medicines.
Dosage
The usual starting dose for high blood pressure is 40 mg taken once daily, which may be increased to 80 mg once daily if necessary. For cardiovascular risk reduction, 80 mg once daily is typically recommended. Telmisartan can be taken with or without food at the same time each day. Your doctor will adjust the dose based on your response and may prescribe a lower dose if you have liver problems or are taking diuretics.
