Amitriptyline 25 mg Tablet is a tricyclic antidepressant used to relieve symptoms of depression and certain types of chronic pain such as neuropathic pain and to prevent migraine headaches. It works by increasing levels of neurotransmitters in the brain that regulate mood and pain perception.

Who is it for
This medicine is for adults with major depressive disorder, chronic neuropathic pain or prevention of migraine headaches as prescribed by a healthcare professional. It may also be used off‑label for insomnia or irritable bowel syndrome. It should not be used by children under 12, people who have recently had a heart attack, or those with severe liver disease, glaucoma or known hypersensitivity to tricyclic antidepressants. Caution is advised in elderly patients and pregnant or breastfeeding women.

Dosage
For depression, the usual starting dose is 25 mg taken at bedtime or in divided doses, gradually increased up to 150 mg per day as directed by your doctor. For chronic pain or migraine prophylaxis, a lower dose (10–25 mg at night) is used. Take the tablet with or without food at the same time each day. Do not suddenly stop taking the medication. Our pharmacist may contact you to review your condition and adjust the dosing plan if needed.
