Altadon-3 Tablet (risperidone) is an atypical antipsychotic medication used to treat schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and irritability associated with autistic disorder. It works by helping to restore the balance of certain neurotransmitters in the brain.
Who is it for
This medication is prescribed for adults and adolescents with schizophrenia or manic episodes of bipolar disorder, and for children with autism-related irritability. It should not be taken by individuals who are allergic to risperidone or have severe liver or kidney impairment. Elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis should avoid use due to an increased risk of stroke; pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before use.
Dosage
Dosing is individualized by a healthcare professional. For adults with schizophrenia, the usual starting dose is 1 mg twice daily, gradually increasing to 4 – 6 mg per day. For bipolar disorder, 2 – 3 mg once daily is typical. For children with autism, a low dose of 0.25 – 0.5 mg once daily may be used. Take this medication exactly as prescribed.
